Volunteer Opportunities

Pentiddy loves to host people and offer them a unique experience to learn about all aspects of ‘simple’ living and the day to day work of a diverse permaculture smallholding. See below for what’s on offer:

Short-Term Stays

Pentiddy is part of the WWOOF (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms), Help-x  and Workaway where people can exchange their volunteer help for food and accommodation. The accommodation offered depends on our total number of volunteers, but can be a cabin or caravan- both with wood burning stoves, or a tent.

Pentiddy Woods Internship – new for 2018!

This is an opportunity to join our family for 9 months living off-grid on an established experimental woodland smallholding.

From October each year through to the following July we are offering a full, rounded experience in sustainable living. You will be trained in numerous essential skills for setting up your own project. There will be a small training budget for off-site courses, free weekends (except during hay-making time!), 1 day each week for more flexible study or skills learning. 4 days a week helping on a variety of interesting tasks around the land.

Each season there will also be trips to the Green Scythe Fair and the National Coppice Federation AGM. There are plenty of interesting places to visit fairly locally such as the Eden Project, Landmatters Community, Agroforestry Research Trust, Keveral Farm Community…

We can only offer 2 places each year, and we would obviously prefer you to visit beforehand if possible. Please in the first instance apply in writing or by e-mail.

Volunteer Tasks

Your role as a volunteer will be varied and interesting. We hope everyone will get involved in the day-to-day duties, such as watering the garden, feeding the sheep and ducks and preparing food and washing up, but beyond this there are a whole host of interesting tasks to get involved with.

Want to volunteer?

It is best to contact us regarding volunteering well in advance of your proposed stay. You will need to join either WWOOF, Workaway or Help-X.

The people who volunteer here provide us with the welcome extra hands needed for much of the day-to-day running of the place.

We treat our volunteers much like extra members of the family, and they work, eat and socialise with us most of the time. Most only come for a week or two, but some for much longer (this is now formalised and we can only accept interns as outlined above.
